Thieves smashed a window at Saap Ver on Division Street, took the register and safe, and hit a nearby taproom the same morning.
Thieves broke into Saap Ver, a Thai restaurant on Division Street, by smashing a large window after failing to get through the locked front door. They grabbed the register and a safe. Owner Kobe Aukcarapasutanun got a call from his staff around 5 AM. Security cameras caught the whole thing — he called it a coordinated gang hit. Vaulins Taproom nearby got burglarized the same morning. No arrests yet, and police haven’t confirmed whether the two incidents are connected.
Design District has been one of the safer pockets with an up-and-coming restaurant scene, and Saap Ver is one of our favorite Thai spots in the Bay Area. A smash-and-grab like this in that corridor is a bad sign for the businesses that have been building there.
