Oaxacan Flavors on Calle 24

Donaji on 24th Street in the Mission. Oaxacan food with vegetarian and pescatarian options.

Donaji brings Oaxacan food to 24th Street. Chef Isai Cuevas is from Zimatlán, Oaxaca. I’ve eaten tlayudas in Oaxaca, and Donaji’s version gets the crisp tortilla base and quesillo right.

The space is bright with colorful Mexican art on the walls.

These are tostadas topped with scrambled eggs, avocado slices, red onion.

The quesadilla was good, the tacos too.

[!TIP] Order the tlayudas. Dinner only, closed Mon-Tue. Reservations recommended on weekends.

For the Oaxaca trip version, Mercado 20 de Noviembre is where the tlayudas and mole sit under one roof. On 24th Street, Taqueria Vallarta does central Mexican-style al pastor. For dessert, walk over to Valencia for chocolate.

For the rest of Calle 24 and Valencia, see the Mission District guide.
