MF DOOM Tribute at The City Station

A free Halloween tribute at The City Station for MF DOOM, the masked rapper whose death was announced on New Year's Eve 2020.

MF DOOM tribute crowd

The City Station hosted a free DOOMSDAY tribute and benefit today, Halloween, for MF DOOM. The rapper, born Daniel Dumile, built his career behind a metal mask modeled on Doctor Doom and released some of the most sampled and quoted underground hip-hop albums of the 2000s, including Madvillainy and MM..FOOD.

His death on October 31, 2020 wasn’t made public until his family announced it two months later, on New Year’s Eve. That delay turned this Halloween into an unofficial memorial date for fans, and events like this one popped up in cities that had no direct connection to him beyond the music.

The crowd here skewed toward people who grew up on his records rather than casual fans. No ticket, no cover charge — just a benefit show built around a rapper who spent his career staying anonymous.
