Fleet Week in San Francisco

Fleet Week returned to San Francisco on Oct. 9–10, 2021 after a COVID cancellation — Blue Angels over the bay, best viewed from Marina Green or Crissy Field.

Fleet Week returned on Oct. 9 and 10, 2021, the first time it ran since the COVID-19 cancellation in 2020. A full year without it made this one feel bigger than usual — people showed up early to claim spots along the waterfront.

The Patriots Jet Team and the Blue Angels put on the main show, and it’s loud in a way photos don’t convey. The jets pass low enough over the bay that the sound arrives a beat after you see them, and it rattles in your chest more than your ears.

Fleet Week happens every October. Best viewing is from Marina Green, Crissy Field, or Pier 39 — bring ear protection.

For more SF events, check out Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown (April) or Día de Muertos in the Mission (November). The Presidio Tunnel Tops is another good waterfront spot with Golden Gate views.
